So, you’re about to be on camera for a promo video? Awesome! Whether you’re talking about your business, a product, or just sharing your story—this is your moment to connect with people. No need to stress! Here’s how to feel comfortable, sound confident, and come across like your best self.
You don’t need a script—you just need a game plan.
Think about:
What’s the one big thing you want people to remember?
Why does this matter to you (and to them)?
What’s the vibe you want to give off—friendly? Fired up? Down-to-earth?
When you know the message, the words will come.
Forget corporate-speak. People want real. So say things how you naturally would.
Instead of: “We’re leveraging innovative solutions to drive engagement…”
Try: “We’re doing something different that actually helps people.”
Keep it simple, conversational, and you.
Try saying your main points out loud a few times, maybe even record yourself. But don’t overdo it. The goal isn’t to sound rehearsed—it’s to sound real.
Tip: Explain what you’re doing to a friend or someone who doesn’t know anything about it. If they get it and stay interested, you’re doing great.
Your body language can say a lot—even before you speak.
Here’s what helps:
Sit or stand up straight (but not stiff).
Use your hands if you normally do—it adds personality!
Smile a little—it helps you look warm and feel more relaxed.
Make eye contact with the interviewer (or the camera, if that’s the setup).
And hey—don’t worry if you mess up. Just pause, laugh it off, and start that sentence again. It’s all part of it.
Pick something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Like… “I’d wear this to a fun meeting with a new client” vibes.
Avoid:
Tiny patterns (they can look weird on camera)
Super bright whites or busy prints
Clothes you have to constantly fix or tug at
Pro tip: solid colors usually look great.
Camera tends to flatten energy a little, so go just a touch bigger than usual. Smile a little more, speak up a bit, show some passion—especially when you’re talking about something you care about.
You don’t have to be over the top. Just be you… turned up 10%.
Imagine someone wants to pull a great quote from your answer. The best ones are simple and to the point.
Instead of:
“Yeah, so we, um, kind of built this because, I mean, it just felt like something people needed?”
Try:
“We built this because people were struggling—and we wanted to help.”
That’s clean, clear, and powerful.
Nobody expects you to be perfect on the first try. If you flub a word or get lost—just pause, take a breath, and start again from the last sentence. Editors are your best friends. They’ll make you look awesome in your video interview.
Seriously. This should feel good! You’re talking about something you believe in. Let that come through. Laugh. Smile. Be yourself. The more relaxed and natural you are, the more people will connect with what you’re saying.
You’re not here to “perform”—you’re here to share. If you show up as yourself, speak from the heart, and remember that it’s okay to mess up a little… you’re going to come across as confident, trustworthy, and real. making for an authentic video interview.
You got this. 🎤✨
